Garry Meziere
Garry Meziere has had a guitar in his hand ever since he was ten years old. It was the guitarist Chet Atkins that initially inspired the young boy to want to play. His father also a guitarist gave Garry his beginning foundation on the instrument that paved the way to his life long love of the instrument.
Meziere grew up listening to rock and roll, country, jazz, and blues which he has drawn on through the years to create his original and unique style of playing and writing music. It is fair to say that to hear him play you get an immediate sense of passion that will move you like never before.
He formed the Reflex Blue Band in 1988 in Salem, Oregon and after several reincarnations in the winter of 1995 he teamed up at a jam session in Portland, Oregon with local vocalist Ellen Whyte. By this time Meziere was already well-known for his powerful playing ability and strong song writing; Ellen was also known for her dynamic vocal capabilities. It was a chance meeting between them that would prove to turn heads and ears for the next eight years
The two began performing in the spring of 1996 and released their first CD, Different Point of Blue that fall. It was met with great enthusiasm in the Northwest area and won Best Northwest Recording from the Cascade Blues Association. Meziere and Whyte would go on to become a writing team that continued to grow and develop through two more CDs and garnered numerous awards both for recording and performance including three nominations for Meziere for Best Electric Guitar.
Meziere continued to move in a new direction with the release of his new CD Born with the Blues in 2004. The CD features 12 new tunes all written by Garry and with some help from his long time musical friend Frank Ryals. The music covers a wide spectrum of the blues which has become a trademark for the guitarist. | |
He keeps busy these days teaching guitar and performing with his long time partner Ellen Wyhte. He performs in his own band the Ivie Meziere Band featuring another long time musical mentor and friend Orvil Ivie on guitar also and still performs two nights a month with Richard Day Reynolds.
He has been in the studio recording a 4th CD with Ellen Whyte that is set for release in June this year. The CD is the best so far according to Ellen and Garry. The CD will feature 11 new original tunes and show cases the very best talent in Portland today! He also has recorded recently with Blues and Jazz singer Karen Dumont. She is planning her CD release sometime in June also. Garry co-wrote two tunes with Karen and she did a cover of “Wish You Were Here” off of Garry’s CD Born With The Blues. He continues to write new material and is currently working on material with Orvil Ivie for recordings with the Ivie Meziere Band. They hope to have a CD out in the near future. |
“Garry Meziere’s lead guitar is the equal of anything you will ever hear. He is equally comfortable with ringing, bell-like blues leads, with soaring rock solos, and tasty jazz improvisation.”
