The iconic Portland band, The Strange Tones are thrilled to announce their return to Mac’s
Restaurant & Nightclub! Known for their unforgettable performances and electrifying
energy, the band considers Mac’s their old Eugene stomping grounds, and have a history
of exciting performances there.
The magic of this ensemble is fueled by four players who are equally compelled and driven
to advance their cause. Led by the husband-and-wife team of Guitar Julie and bassist
Andy Strange, and fortified by longtime partners guitarist Suburban Slim and drummer
Dave Melyan, this group forms “….one of Portland’s most original and accomplished
bands.” – The Oregonian. Members Andy Strange and Suburban Slim both have deep
musical roots that are firmly planted in Eugene. Strange was born and raised in Eugene
and Slim lived there for many years, and they both established reputations as some of the
top musicians of the area.
Going strong since 2001, the band is known for their one-of-a-kind style they call
“Crime-A-Billy”. Their unique sound draws upon the rich traditions of blues, rockabilly, surf,
and R & B, and finishes it off with a private eye twist. Their combination of well-crafted
songwriting, top notch musicianship, and playful, engaging stage shows has earned the
band multiple awards and entry into the Muddy Hall of Fame by the Cascade Blues
Association. “Many people find it hard to show something new within the electric blues
format and they should ask The Strange Tones for some private lessons as they have
found their own niche and truly shine.”
